The foundation of effective therapy lies in a strong, trusting relationship. Together, we can move mountains.
I’m Lisa Dunagan, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Life can present challenges that leave us feeling overwhelmed, lost, or unsure of our next steps. You are not alone, and you don’t have to find the way forward by yourself.
i.About
For nearly thirty years I have worked with people at every stage of life: preteens and teenagers, adults and elders, couples and whole families. I take an active, engaged approach. Our sessions are a conversation and a collaboration, never a monologue.
I believe the foundation of effective therapy lies in a strong, trusting relationship. From there we can look honestly at what truly matters to you, your values and aspirations, and make intentional choices toward a more rewarding life.
I trained at Antioch University, completing my master’s degree in 1992, and have been licensed in New Hampshire since 2005. I also speak Spanish.
ii.Approach
I offer transformative work that often leads outside of your comfort zone. I will invite you to try new things, take emotional risks and embrace change, always within a relationship built on trust.
Everything rests on connection and collaboration. We build that first, and we keep tending it.
I won’t simply nod along. I ask questions, offer observations and work alongside you.
We explore your inner world, your values and aspirations, so the choices you make are your own.
Growth asks for some courage. I will invite you to take emotional risks, and support you as you do.
Methods
My work draws on psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, informed by attachment-based, Gottman Method, Gestalt, dialectical behavior, compassion-focused and family systems approaches.
By stepping into the unknown, you open yourself up to new experiences and opportunities, creating a richer, more meaningful life.
